Green Lawn Cemetery welcomes the VFW for the annual celebration and parade in honor of its founder, James Romanis.

James Romanis was the first adjutant of the Columbus, Ohio-based American Veterans of Foreign Service and later commander-in-chief. Romanis and several other local veterans of the Spanish-American War founded the first VFW chapter inside an East Main Street (Columbus) tailor shop in 1899.

Romanis died Dec. 7, 1954 at age 76 and is buried in Green Lawn Cemetery.
